Perfumes in Bloom
It's that time of the year when flowers are blooming and the aromas are simply breathtaking. Welcome to Spring! Floral perfumes will be top of mind because of all the blooming beauties. There's nothing like a natural floral perfume made with essential oils.
One of my mentors, from a distance, is always creating beautiful perfumes. She's Andrea Butje Founder, Chief Nose and Head Instructor for Aromahead Institute. I'm going to share some of her perfumes blends that she has shared with all of us who are part of her tribe. In here recipes, you'll notice that she uses the common name and the botanical name for all of the ingredients. She is forever teaching.
Here goes ...
Vanilla Jasmine Perfume Balm. This is a solid perfume that can be made using what she calls the “Stove Top Melting Method”
Ingredients:
1 oz (28 g) beeswax (Cera alba)
3 oz (90 mil) vanilla-infused jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis)
12 drops Jasmine absolute (Jasminum grandiflorum)
Directions:
Put a Pyrex measuring cup into a soup pot that's 1/4 full of gently boiling water. Put the beeswax into the Pyrex and melt. Add the jojoba and melt it with the beeswax. Remove and blend and add the essential oil drops, stirring gently with a glass stirring rod, or with the handle of a stainless steel spoon.
Pour the perfume into four 1 oz (30 ml) glass jars or salve tins. Apply when ever your feel the need to smell ... oh so good.
Here's another perfume blend of hers that you can make and add to your perfume collection.
Rock Rose Roll-On Perfume
10 ml jojoba ( Simmondsia chinensis)
1 drop Rock Rose (Cistus ladaniferus)
1 drop Vetiver (Vetiver zizanoides)
4 drops Yuzu (Citrus junos)
You can make this blend in a 10 ml roll-on bottle. Put the jojoba and essential oils into the bottle and snap the roll-top into place. Yes, it's that simple!
