Abbott And Costello Meet Frankenstein

Abbott And Costello Meet Frankenstein
Life in a small freight handling office becomes more than they bargained for when Chick Young and Wilbur Grey deliver two crates with unusual cargo to a local wax museum. Although Chick is hard to convince, Wilbur soon realizes the crates contain none other than Dracula and Frankenstein who have now disappeared. Things get crazier when Lawrence Talbot arrives to help track down the vampire and monster, but Wilbur soon learns that Talbot himself has a dark secret—he’s a werewolf. While trying to track down (or in Wilbur’s case, keep far away from) the dangerous duo, Wilbur must also contend with the affections of Dr. Sandra Mornay, who, he soon realizes, wants to transplant his brain into the Frankenstein monster. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for in “Abbott And Costello Meet Frankenstein”.

∙ At the beginning of the movie, Wilbur pulls the lady’s bag from the bottom of the stack and the luggage falls on him. He lands on his stomach. But, when Chick walks over and yells “What are you trying to do?”, Wilbur is on his right side, holding his head.

∙ Wilbur is reading the sign about Dracula when the coffin next to him creaks open. A close-up shows Dracula’s right hand reaches out and grasps the side of the coffin. The scene cuts to a wider view of Wilbur and the coffin. Dracula’s hand can be seen reaching out and grasping the coffin’s side again.

∙ Later during the scene, when Wilbur is reading the sign about drinking blood, the coffin starts to open, and the candle holder starts to slide across the top. The wire holding the candle upright can be seen while it’s moving. (Noticeably, when the lid shuts, the shadow of the wire can be seen on top.) A few moments later, when Dracula turns into a bat, the wire holding it can be seen. (This is especially noticeable when he’s outside the castle windows.)

∙ Wilbur and Chick are talking at the castle after the ladies have left the room. In the front close-up of the two of them, Chick puts their hats on the table and then sits on the edge while talking to Wilbur. It cuts to a different angle when he says “to prove to you…” and he’s now standing next to Wilbur with his right hand on his shoulder.

∙ Chick, Wilbur and Talbot are in the changing room at the masquerade ball. In the close-up of Chick and Talbot, when Talbot mentions “Dracula is a very dangerous person”, Chick is still trying to untangle the knot in his tie. It cuts to a farther when Chick says Wilbur and Talbot are just trying to scare him and his tie is completely undone.

“Abbott And Costello Meet Frankenstein” (1948) stars Bud Abbott, Lou Costello, Lon Chaney Jr, Bela Lugosi, Glenn Strange, Lenore Aubert and Jane Randolph. It runs 83 minutes and is Unrated.
